The spring sports season
has finally drawn to a close. We salute
all of our teams for their excellent performances and outstanding
sportsmanship. A special round of applause
and congratulations to the Warriors Boys Lacrosse team who won their match

Today is transition day
throughout the Medfield school system.
We will be welcoming the incoming Class of 2014, taking them on tours of
the building and sharing important information about high school campus life
and culture.

Tomorrow, Wednesday, June
22, is the last day of school. Students
will be taking their last exam (Period 1), beginning at 8:00 AM. Students will be released at 9:45 AM. Busses will roll at 11:15 AM.
·
Final report cards will
be mailed home the week of June 28, 2010.

REMINDER: This Wednesday,
June 9 at 7:00 PM we will host our annual Evening of Excellence, a night to
honor students in grades 9 – 11, in the high school auditorium. We will be giving out departmental awards,
books awards and the annual Shining Star
and Blue and White awards. Parents have
received advance notification if their sons or daughters will receive an award
during the Evening of Excellence.

Due to a production
delay, the distribution of the MHS Yearbook to underclassmen will be
rescheduled. Students will be notified
of the new distribution date via the daily announcements, as soon as it becomes
available.
·
Final exams begin on
Thursday, June 17. More specific
schedule information is available in the May newsletter that was posted
previously on both Edline and this website.

· Just a reminder that the deadline for recognizing school
staff through
MCPE's Blue Ribbon Program is this week. Check the Thursday packet
or the form. The Blue
Ribbon certificates will be delivered to
schools on
Thursday, June 17.

The Athletics Awards
Night for all athletes and their parents will be held next Tuesday, June 1
beginning at 6:30 PM in the auditorium. Just
prior to the awards program at 5:00 PM, our student athletes are invited to a
cookout. The cookout is free to Warrior
athletes and is sponsored by the MHS Boosters and the Athletics dept. An informational flyer is posted on the Edline home page.

On Wednesday and
Thursday, June 2 and 3, all Grade 9 students will be taking the Biology
MCAS. Please send your child to school
with #2 pencils, bottled water and snacks if s/he would want them. Students are also allowed to use calculators,
so please ask your child to bring her/his calculator if s/he owns one.
·
Next week is filled with
activities and events for the Class of 2010, culminating with our commencement
ceremony on Sunday, June 6 beginning at 2:00 PM. Details of all events are included in the Graduation
2010 forms on this website and on Edline.

On Wednesday, June 9 at

The Medfield Coalition
for Public Education will be bringing back its “E4E” (“Entertaining for
Education”) fundraiser next fall, after raising almost $55,000 (between parties
and corporate donations) this past year. Given the success of
the very first E4E, they think it will be an even bigger fundraiser next
year! So while you’re enjoying the summer months, MCPE encourages
you to start thinking of ideas for next fall and consider hosting your own E4E

will sponsor the annual softball tournament on Sunday, May 16 beginning at

The season of honor
recognition begins next week with the French and Spanish Honor Society
inductions. This event takes place
Tuesday, May 18 at 7:00 PM in the auditorium.
On Thursday, May 20 at 7:00 PM, the MHS National Honor Society will
induct its newest members recognizing their academic excellence and commitment
to service.

The MHS Site Council will
meet on Tuesday, May 18 at 7:00 PM in the principal’s conference room in the

Join the visual arts
department on Wednesday, May 19 from 6:30 – 8:00 PM for a reception and the
annual MHS Art Show. In the areas of the
main lobby and the auditorium foyer, the exceptional talent of our art students
will be displayed. All are welcome to
attend!

On Saturday, May 22
beginning at 7:00 PM, our music department will present its annual POPS Night
2010 in the gym. The evening’s music
will center around the theme, “A Day at the Beach”,
and will feature the incredible talents of all MHS music ensembles.

hosting a Senior Parent Coffee on Thursday, April 29 at 7:45 AM in room
125. Parents who have recently
experienced the transition of sending a child to college will be on hand to
share information that could be helpful to those currently going through this
process.

Don’t miss the incredible
talents of our Jazz Night musicians this Friday night, April 30 at 7:00 PM in the
auditorium. It is a great evening of
entertainment that only comes once a year!

Community service efforts
are in full swing at MHS. Our student
council will sponsor a sleep-out for the homeless this Friday, April 30 until
9:00 AM on Saturday morning, May 1. This
annual event takes place outside the

Next Tuesday, May 4, from
5:00 – 8:00 PM it’s Boosters Night at the Italian Groceria. Buy your dinner during that time and help
support MHS. On Wednesday evening, May
5, join the Boosters meeting at 7:00 PM in the library and help decide where
the funds raised will be spent.

Senior parents can view
Term 4 progress reports for their students, May 5 and 6, when the reports will
be posted to Edline.

On Thursday, May 6, our
Peer Leadership group will make a presentation to the entire student body about
the importance of making good choices during this upcoming season of prom,
graduation, and other very special end of the year events.

Please note that Friday,
May 7 is a Teacher Professional Day and all students will be dismissed at 11:05
AM. The MHS Junior-Senior Prom will take
place that evening beginning at 6:00 PM at the Westin Waltham Hotel.

This week we will say
farewell to two groups of Medfield High students and teachers embarking on
educational trips abroad. On Wednesday,
April 14, Ms. Tracy Tasi and Ms. Susan Ibrahim will
accompany our students as they tour

Term 3 report cards will
be distributed to students this Thursday, April 15 at 2:00 PM.

The guidance department
will sponsor a Junior Parent Coffee this Friday morning, April 16 at 7:45 AM in
room 125. As part of this program,
several senior parents have been invited to share their insights into navigating
the future planning process.

The Day of Silence is
coming to MHS once again this Friday, April 16.
For the last eight years, MHS students, who have chosen to do so, have
participated in this national day of protest against the “silencing” of GLBT
students, who must kept their identity secret, or risk harassment and bullying
from their peers.
·
Friday, April 16, MHS
celebrates Earth Day. Teachers will be
incorporating an interdisciplinary lesson into their subject areas regarding
environmental issues. In addition, students
from environmental science classes will set up booths in the gym, where classes
will be able to visit and ask questions.

Just a reminder, SCHOOL
VACATION WEEK is April 19 – 23. The
school offices will be closed during that week.

The athletic department is sponsoring an information night for all athletes
and parents on March 25 at 6:30 PM. The
purpose of this evening is to hold seminars in the following areas: Recruiting
and the college search for athletes, hosted by Michael LaFrancesca and Nutrition
for the male athlete and Nutrition for the female athlete, led by Dr.
Paula Quatramoni.
Also, the Athletic injuries,
treatment and rehabilitation seminar will be presented by our trainer Maria Hutsick
and include a discussion about concussions.
A seminar on Cyber taunting and Facebook issues will be hosted by Jeff Sperling, our Dean of Students, and Jeff Cambridge from the
wellness department. The Off-season weight training and “tour the
fitness facility” seminar will be hosted by Brian Gavaghan
and many of our coaches. Finally, A Coaches Roundtable will be hosted by
the Athletic Director, Jon Kirby, during which both parent and athletes can ask
questions and learn more about our athletic department. This evening is open to everyone in grades 8-12. You will be able to attend 2 sessions, as
each session is slated to meet for 45 minutes.
The night will start in the gym for a brief greeting and explanation. Hope to see you there!

Just a reminder that Thursday, April 1 is a Teacher Professional Day
with an early release time of 11:05 AM for students. Friday, April 2 is a NO SCHOOL day for all.

Theatre Society will present its musical production, Children of Eden, with
performances scheduled for Friday and Saturday, March 12 and 13 at 7:00 PM and
Sunday, March 14 at 2:00 PM. Get your
tickets now and don’t miss out on this opportunity to see some incredible
performances from our hardworking, very talented students!

Next week, all students
will have the opportunity to participate in two fun and relaxing week-long
events: Stress Recess Week and Café
Read-a-Latte. Stress Recess Week is an
initiative of the MHS Site Council offering students a chance to take a break
during their reading periods by signing up for fun and relaxing activities such
as yoga. The goal is to make students
aware of stress relieving strategies they might use to achieve better overall
health and improved quality of life.

Our library media center
will be sponsoring its seventh annual Café Read-a-Latte during March 15 -
19. This event celebrates the joy of
reading and encourages students to browse the library’s collections for
pleasure reading books. Through generous
donations from local businesses and parents, delicious baked goods and other
snacks are available for a nominal charge.
Monies raised will be used toward improving library collections.

Party group is sponsoring their annual “Senior Fashion Show” on Friday, March

The MHS Peer Leadership
program is holding a “Friendly’s Fundraiser” at Friendly’s restaurant in
Medfield on Wednesday, February 24 from 5:00 – 8:00 PM. If you are going to the basketball game that night,
why not stop at Friendly’s first?
Proceeds go toward supporting the many school and community initiatives
that this group undertakes, including: pre-prom assembly, the peer match
program, the annual toy drive, as well as various awareness-raising campaigns
to support teens in making healthy decisions.
